Tip of the Week: Archiving Android Apps to Save Space
Back in April of this year, Google announced that the Android platform would be given the capability to archive unused applications to help preserve the precious storage space on the devices…provided that the device was almost out of available space. This auto-archive feature is now available to all users, regardless of the storage left on their device.
Let’s talk about what this feature does, and how you can activate it for yourself.
Archiving Apps Allows You to Save Space Without Sacrificing Them
While our devices are capable of incredible things, limitless storage is not one of them. Quite the opposite, really, as many of us have found as we download applications. It can be frustrating to see your available space get eaten away like this, so the auto-archive feature is a useful little perk.
With auto-archive enabled through its toggle in the Google Play Store, unused apps will be removed once your device reaches a limited amount of storage space. This toggle can be found by opening the Play Store, then tapping into your profile, selecting Settings, and under the General section, activating Automatically archive apps. From then on, any archived apps can be viewed in the Play Store with an “archived” filter enabled.
Hopefully, this will help keep you from having to delete things you need from your devices.
